People in the News (2/20/11): Appointments and Promotions

New York City-based Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors has announced the appointment of KATHY EASON as CFO. Eason, most recently comptroller for the Natural Resources Defense Council, earlier served as assistant comptroller for Trinity Church in lower Manhattan; as controller for Meridian VAT Reclaim, a financial services company specializing in Fortune 500 tax reclaimation; and as an analyst and auditor at several firms, including Forbes, Macmillan, and Deloitte Haskins & Sells.

The World Resources Institute in Washington, D.C., has announced that KEVIN KENNEDY will lead its U.S. Climate Initiative. Kennedy joins WRI from the California Air Resources Board, where he served as assistant executive officer in charge of the Office of Climate Change, overseeing planning and policy elements in the implementation of the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32). Earlier, he worked at the California Energy Commission as a special advisor to Commissioner Jeffrey D. Byron and to Energy Commission Chairman Joseph Desmond.

The Carnegie Corporation of New York has announced the appointments of NICOLE HOWE BUGGS as director of grants management and BONNIE RIVERS as grants manager. Howe Buggs, most recently director of grants management and administration at the Washington, D.C.-based Public Welfare Foundation, previously was director of grants management at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. Rivers was formerly a grants specialist and program assistant to the associate director of creativity and culture at the Rockefeller Foundation; she has a background in arts and theater and spent twelve years professionally performing in more than forty musicals.

The D.C.-based United Nations Foundation has announced the appointment of RICHARD PARNELL as chief operating officer. Parnell, the foundation's chief of staff since 2001, previously served as senior operations officer for the American Red Cross national development team and as chief of staff to the president of the University of Florida.

The Woodland Hills-based California Wellness Foundation has announced the appointments of DAVID S. BARLOW as board chair and BARBARA C. STAGGERS as vice chair. Barlow, who joined the foundation's board in 2005, is vice president of finance and administration at the Stuart Foundation and served for ten years as executive director of the San Francisco Foundation Community Initiative Funds. Staggers, who has served on the foundation's board since 2004, is director of the division of adolescent medicine at Children's Hospital and Research Center at Oakland, where she is also co-founder of FACES for the Future, a program that prepares Bay Area youth for careers in the health professions.

In other news, Grantmakers in Aging in Dayton, Ohio, has announced the retirement of CAROL A. FARQUHAR, effective October 2011. Farquhar joined the organization in 1999 as its first full-time executive director after a thirty-year career at the Kettering Foundation, where she managed projects related to older adults and public policy. One of the original founders of the Ohio Grantmakers Forum, she currently serves on the boards of the Senior Resource Connection and the Dade Fund, a donor-designated fund of the Miami Foundation.
