Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan Awards $7.4 Million in Grants

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has announced more than four hundred and eighty grants totaling nearly $7.4 million to nonprofits working to improve the quality of life in the region.

Grants awarded during the final quarter of 2010 include $80,000 to the Detroit Historical Society to help provide online interactive learning resources for elementary school students and teachers; $75,000 to the Michigan Health Council to develop a leadership curriculum for nurse managers; $75,000 to the Music Hall for the Performing Arts, Detroit to support performing arts education programs for young people; and $25,000 to the Huron River Watershed Council in Ann Arbor to help develop a greenways and conservation plan for the Huron River. In addition, the foundation approved $5.9 million in donor-advised grants.

Since its inception, the foundation has distributed more than $444 million to nonprofit organizations working in the areas of education, arts and culture, health, human services, community development, and civic affairs.
