Chase Awards $3.2 Million to Detroit-Area Nonprofits

JP Morgan Chase has announced grants totaling $3.2 million to forty nonprofit organizations working in the Detroit metropolitan region.

Recpients include Community Legal Resources, which provides technical and legal assistance and educational services to North End and Southwest Detroit residents; Bridging Communities, Inc., which is partnering with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Southwest Solutions, and the WARM Training Center to retrofit ten Springwells Village homes and train prospective homeowners; and the Southwest Detroit Business Association, which funds a pilot program that is addressing blight in a seven-block area and providing small grants for property repairs in the neighborhood's business district.

The JP Morgan Chase Foundation also awarded grants to a number of nonprofits working in the region, including $200,000 to Goodwill Industries to train unemployed young men and women in the North End, and $200,000 to Teach for America to identify and recruit eleven teachers to work in the Detroit public school system.

"Through our philanthropy, Chase encourages nonprofits to collaborate on projects, especially in Detroit's North End and Southwest neighborhoods," said Sarah McClelland, president of Chase Michigan. "Together, we are making tangible improvements."
