California Community Foundation Awards $3.6 Million in Grants
The California Community Foundation has announced $3.6 million in grants and an additional $20.9 million from donor-advised funds to nonprofits serving low-income communities in Los Angeles County.
Grants were awarded in each of the foundation's five interest areas — education, health care, human development, affordable housing, and the arts. They include $150,000 to the YMCA of Greater Long Beach; $100,000 to the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools; $75,000 to the Boyle Heights Learning Collaborative; $50,000 to the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation; and $35,000 to the Watts Village Theater Company.
Through the foundation's El Monte Community Building Initiative, ten organizations received a total of $400,000, including $65,000 to the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps, $50,000 to the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and $40,000 to Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County. Other grants were awarded for civic engagement projects, management support organizations, and housing and neighborhood programs.
"An investment of nearly $30 million in the nonprofit community in these difficult financial times reflects the vital importance of these organizations in our community," said CCF president and CEO Antonia Hernández. "It also demonstrates the power of the partnership between the community's foundation and its donors."
