Chevron Commits $25 Million to Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

The Chevron Corporation has announced an additional $25 million commitment to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to support global health programs in developing nations.

The commitment builds on a $30 million pledge by Chevron to the Global Fund in 2008 for programs in Africa and Asia, bringing the petrochemical giant's six-year investment in the organization to $55 million. The new funding will be used to build on the Global Fund's past successes, which include helping more than 300,000 people living with HIV in Nigeria, Indonesia, South Africa, and Thailand obtain access to life-saving antiretroviral treatments; supporting efforts to distribute nearly one million insecticide-treated bed nets in Angola; promoting peer education programs in South Africa that have reached 1.9 million young people; and helping to detect more than 9,000 cases of TB.

Chevron initially chose the Global Fund as a partner because the organization's performance-based model provides an efficient and high-impact approach to creating and sustaining healthy communities around the world. The Global Fund also places a major emphasis on measurement and evaluation of the programs it funds, which helps ensure that its investments in frontline providers make a tangible difference in the lives of people most in need. With its latest commitment, Chevron is now the largest private-sector donor to the Global Fund.
