Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles Announces 2010 Cutting Edge Grants

The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles has announced grants totaling more than $1 million to five organizations working to enhance Jewish life in the region.

Made through the foundation's Cutting Edge Grants initiative, the awards will support creative thinkers, social entrepreneurs, and innovative organizations as they work to develop and implement transformative programs with high visibility and impact. This year's recipients are the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, which was awarded $250,000 for its Fed Up with Hunger/Netiya program; the Six Points Fellowship, which received $250,000 to expand to Los Angeles its fellowship program for emerging Jewish artists; the Etta Israel Center, which was awarded $200,000 for its Jewish Community Housing for Adult Independence program; JConnect, which received $200,000 for the "Jewlicious Journeys" project; and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, which was awarded $150,000 to help the PJ library introduce young readers to Jewish children's books.

"The 2010 class of Cutting Edge Grants represents some of the most innovative and transformational thinking taking place in our community," said foundation president and CEO Marvin Schotland. "From addressing hunger in Los Angeles to the housing needs of developmentally disabled young adults, and other programs as well, these dynamic initiatives have the potential to engage our community, make a significant impact today, and resonate for years to come."
