UC Davis Receives $1.6 Million Grant From Kellogg Foundation

The University of California, Davis has announced a $1.57 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to endow a national network designed to improve children's access to healthy food.

Managed by the Agricultural Sustainability Institute at UC Davis, the endowment will support the Inter-Institutional Network for Food, Agriculture, and Sustainability, which will work to improve food-system sustainability and advance the health of people, society, and the natural environment. The grant will enable the network to nurture a diverse set of early-career scholars who will lead initiatives to address food-system challenges.

Initially, the network will include students from Iowa State University and its Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Michigan State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina State University, Ohio State University, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Minnesota, the University of New Hampshire, the University of New Mexico, the University of Vermont, the University of Wisconsin, and Washington State University. Eventually, the network will be expanded to include other institutions and students.

"UC Davis is recognized globally for its agricultural and environmental research and is a leader in scientific study of sustainability," said UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences dean Neal Van Alfen. "This investment by the Kellogg Foundation will allow us to work nationally with colleagues to identify the most critical issues in agricultural and food-system sustainability and...provide solutions toward sustainable food systems for everyone."
