California
The Los Angeles-based California Community Foundation has announced fellowship awards totaling $325,000 to eighteen emerging and mid-career artists working as painters, sculptors, performance artists, experimental film/videographers, or in the field of multimedia. Seven emerging artists were awarded $15,000 each, while eleven mid-career artists were awarded $20,000 fellowships.
Maine
The Ellsworth-based Maine Community Foundation has announced the election of three new board members. They are Andrea Cianchette Maker, Candace Sanborn, and John Witherspoon.
Michigan
The Hillsdale County Community Foundation has awarded nearly $12,000 to the Hillsdale County Fair to support a new doughnut shop that will open during the upcoming fair season, the Hillsdale Daily News reports. The shop is expected to generate revenue and help make up for $50,000 in state funding that was eliminated in recent years.
New York
The Poughkeepsie-based Community Foundation of Dutchess County has announced more than $250,000 in scholarships and awards to more than 220 local students. Awarded from endowment funds and through partnerships with a number of organizations, including the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce, and the Poughkeepsie and Wappingers school districts, the funding includes $36,000 from the Joseph H. and Mildred C. McManus Scholarship Fund. The latter will assist students who do not necessarily show the greatest academic ability but who are willing to apply themselves and/or demonstrate financial need.
The Watertown-based Northern New York Community Foundation has formed an advisory panel in St. Lawrence County to help identify potential funding priorities, the Watertown Daily Times reports. The fourteen-member panel will work with the foundation to expand its presence in the county and discuss its initiatives and activities with communities in the area.
Ohio
The Cleveland Foundation has announced that Inajo Davis Chappell, a partner at the law firm of Ulmer & Berne, has joined its board. Chappell's responsibilities at the firm includes chairing its nonprofit group.
Tennessee
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has announced disaster grants totaling $726,000 from its Metro Nashville Disaster Response Fund and Tennessee Emergency Response Fund to nine local organizations providing flood relief and restoration services. With this latest round of grants — which include $250,000 to Hands On Nashville, $300,000 to the Housing Fund, and $20,000 to the Centerville Church of Christ — the foundation has awarded more than $2.1 million for flood relief.
Washington
The Seattle Foundation has announced a staff restructuring to better coordinate its seven focus areas. Jared Watson will lead the environment and arts and culture programs; Ceil Erickson will lead the health and wellness and basic needs area; Michael Brown will head up the economy program; Caroline Maillard will direct the foundation's education efforts; and Jennifer Martin will head up neighborhoods and communities. Martin will also coordinate the foundation's global giving initiatives.
