Boston Foundation Awards $2.8 Million in First-Quarter Grants

The Boston Foundation has announced first-quarter grants totaling more than $2.8 million to nonprofits serving residents of the greater Boston area.

Comprising a mix of general operating and program-based support, the grants were awarded in seven of the nine principal strategy areas unveiled by the foundation in September. The largest group of grants, totaling more than $1.3 million, were awarded to organizations working to increase the college graduation rate for low-income, minority, and first-generation college students from public schools in Boston, including $200,000 to the ACCESS Foundation for general operating support and $154,000 to the Hyde Square Task Force to expand its college transition support program.

In addition, the foundation awarded $150,000 to the Workforce Strategy Center for its regional workforce development plan for community colleges; $100,000 to Boston Landmarks Orchestra for general operating support; $100,000 to Save the Harbor/Save the Bay for its Better Beaches initiative; $75,000 to the National Center for Arts & Technology to replicate its model for vocational training, arts education, and community development; and $75,000 to Project R.I.G.H.T. for community outreach and engagement activities.
