California Community Foundation Awards $2.5 Million in Grants
The California Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $2.5 million to twenty-seven nonprofits serving low-income communities in Los Angeles County.
Awarded in the areas of the arts, social services, education, health care, affordable housing, and legal services, the grants of between $50,000 and $300,000 will support core operating expenses, capacity building, policy and advocacy, technical assistance, and capital project efforts. Grantees include the South Bay Family Healthcare Center, which received $300,000 to sustain and expand primary care and specialty care services at the Dr. Claudia Hampton Clinic in Inglewood; Teach for America, which was awarded $100,000 to support hundreds of new teachers in underserved and low-performing schools in the Compton, Los Angeles, and Pasadena Unified school districts; and the LTSC Community Development Corporation, which received $75,000 to provide service-enriched affordable housing for families and individuals.
Additional grants include $70,000 to the Robey Theatre Company to produce original and classical works about the African American experience and $65,000 to the Alliance for Children's Rights to protect the rights of youth currently or formerly placed in foster care.
"Despite signs of an economic recovery, most nonprofits are still facing funding challenges as demand for their services increases," said California Community Foundation president and CEO Antonia Hernández. "It is critical that we continue to support the work of these outstanding organizations that help our most vulnerable populations in Los Angeles County."
