Target Donates $1.25 Million to Salvation Army

The Minneapolis-based Target Corporation has announced cash and in-kind donations totaling $1.25 million in support of the Salvation Army's annual holiday programs, raising its 2009 commitment to the charity to more than $2 million.

Programs funded by Target that support the Salvation Army include Target To-Go, toy drives at local toy shops, and Salvation Army "wish lists." Target is also partnering with Hasbro to donate 5 percent of the cost of selected toys purchased in Target stores from December 6 through December 12. Items included in the Hasbro partnership include classic board games such as Guess Who?, Sorry!, Life, Clue, and Boggle, as well as pre-school games such as Scaterpillar Scramble, Twister Hopscotch, Perfection, Elefun, and Gator Golf.

Beyond the company's annual holiday programs, Target supports national and local chapters through initiatives such as disaster preparedness and relief, Target School Spree, and Bullseye Gives. Over the years, Target has provided grants, volunteers, and in-kind donations to the Salvation Army helping those that need it most.

"Sharing a common goal, Target and the Salvation Army are working together to help make this holiday season special for families in need across the country," said Laysha Ward, the company's president of community relations. "And this year's partnership with Hasbro provides Target guests and our team members with the opportunity to purchase select toys and games that will directly benefit [the charity] — a win-win for everyone."
