$1.4 Billion in Recovery Funds Available for Pennsylvania to Drive Education Reform
The U.S. Department of Education has announced that $1.4 billion is now available to Pennsylvania through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help save hundreds of thousands of teaching jobs that were at risk due to state and local budget cuts. The state became eligible for the funding when it successfully completed the first part of the State Stabilization Application; another $514 million will be made available later this fall.
"The $1.4 billion Pennsylvania will receive today is part of the single largest boost in education funding in recent history," said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. "The president's leadership and support from Congress have made this historic investment possible. Pennsylvania can now utilize these funds to save jobs and lay the groundwork for a generation of education reform."
