Greater Milwaukee Foundation Announces $5.6 Million in Grants
The Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the boards of its supporting organizations have announced more than $5.6 million in grants, including $300,000 to support low-income families in the greater Milwaukee area that are working their way out of poverty.
To help eligible low-income families take full advantage of the earned income tax credit, the foundation awarded $160,000 to the Milwaukee-based Social Development Commission and $100,000 to La Casa de Esperanza to expand their free tax preparation services and outreach in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties.
In addition, the foundation awarded $50,000 to the Enderis Park Neighborhood Association and $20,000 to the Albright Methodist Church, fiscal agent for the Capitol Heights Neighborbood Association, to support the continued efforts of the foundation's Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative; $100, 000 over three years to the Children's Hospital and Health System Foundation to open a full-service dental clinic at the Next Door Foundation; and $50,000 to the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise to support the latter's efforts to reduce disruptive and violent incidents at eight Milwaukee schools through the Milwaukee Violence Free Zone initiative.
Grants awarded by the foundation's supporting funds include $268,350 from the Mary Nohl Fund to support arts education and visual arts projects; $200,000 from the Russell and Betty Jane Shaw Fund to five agencies involved with children's healthcare research; and $79,306 from the Nonprofit Management Fund to twenty-one local agencies.
