Irvine Foundation Announces $10 Million in New Grants
The San Francisco-based James Irvine Foundation has announced twenty-six grants totaling $10.2 million to expand opportunities for Californians to participate in a vibrant, inclusive society.
Through its Arts Regional Initiative, the foundation awarded almost $4 million to eleven arts organizations working to improve their financial sustainability within a challenging economic environment while increasing cultural participation from underrepresented communities. In addition, the foundation awarded $905,000 through its California Democracy program to public broadcaster KQED to support statewide radio coverage of significant policy and governance issues focused on California as well as a special series, Wither California, that will explore key governance and fiscal issues in the context of the 2010 gubernatorial election.
Grants approved the foundation's Youth program include $500,000 to Stanford University to support a Leadership Development Series for the California Multiple Pathways District Initiative. The series will provide district superintendents and their leadership teams with opportunities to learn about and implement new organizational and instructional systems that strengthen and support multiple pathways programs within their school districts.
