California
The Community Foundation for Monterey County has awarded its 2009 Distinguished Trustee Award to Julie Packard, the Salinas Californian reports. In Packard's honor, the foundation will award $10,000 to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which she has headed since it opened to the public in 1984.
Georgia
The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has announced a slate of classes related to its four nonprofit effectiveness priorities: strategic planning and business analysis, board development, fund development planning, and advocacy. During October and November, the foundation will offer three classes for past grantees in cooperation with the Georgia Center for Nonprofits and the Foundation Center.
Indiana
The Legacy Fund, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Fund, has announced that its inaugural Celebration of Philanthropy will be held Thursday, November 12, at the Ritz Charles Hotel in Indianapolis. The event coincides with National Philanthropy Day, which this year will be observed on November 15.
Maine
The Maine Public Broadcasting Network has announced that for every donation made during its October fundraising drive, the
Maine Community Foundation will donate enough to the Good Shepherd Food-Bank to feed a family of four for a week.
Michigan
The Midland Area Community Foundation has presented its inaugural Philanthropy Award to Mary Neely. The award recognizes an individual in the community who has selflessly given time, talent, and treasure in the interest of improving the community. Currently president of the Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund, Neely has been active in the area's nonprofit community for decades.
Ohio
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced that its next Food for Thought presentation will be held on October 13. During an event at the Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, the foundation will host a discussion about developments in the historic Over the Rhine neighborhood as well as walking tours of what had become one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country.
Wisconsin
The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation has announced that during its annual donor appreciation event, the foundation was presented with a $250,000 gift from the J.J. Keller Foundation. At the same event, the Keller family was recognized with the Partner in Philanthropy award for its involvement in the community foundation's Basic Needs Giving Partnership. Also honored were the Schmidt family for its leadership in the Basic Needs Giving Partnership and U.S. Oil Open, and the Oshkosh Corporation for its charitable support of the community.
