Bush Foundation Awards $7.3 Million in Grants
The St. Paul-based Bush Foundation has announced that between May and August it distributed more than $7.2 million in grants to organizations in Minnesota and the Dakotas.
Payments totaling more than $5.2 million went to support legacy and transition grantees including St. Paul's Independent School District #625 ($630,951); AchieveMpls ($541,526); the South Dakota Community Foundation ($500,000); tribal child welfare agency Lakota Oyate Wakanyeja Owicakiyapi in Pine Ridge, South Dakota ($286,950); and the Minneapolis-based Green Institute ($250,000).
The foundation also disbursed $2 million through its Goals for a Decade program, which supports leadership and community engagement, Native nations, and educational achievement. Those payments included $250,000 to the Minnesota Opera in Minneapolis; $150,756 to Hamline University in St. Paul; $125,000 to the University of South Dakota in Vermillion; and $25,000 to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Cass Lake, Minnesota.
The foundation expects to distribute a total of $30 million during 2009, of which $15.1 million has been announced to date.
