Hogg Foundation for Mental Health Awards $7.8 Million for Youth Services in Houston

Hogg Foundation for Mental Health Awards $7.8 Million for Youth Services in Houston

The Austin-based Hogg Foundation for Mental Health has announced eight grants totaling $7.8 million for community programs that work to provide mental health services for children, youth, and their families.

The grants will enable the recipients to support twenty-seven nonprofit and government agencies that provide mental health promotion, prevention, early identification, intervention, and treatment services in schools and community settings such as day care centers and transitional living shelters. Over the next three years, an estimated ten thousand children and youth in high-need areas of Houston and Harris County will receive assistance. In keeping with the federal "systems of care" service model, funded projects must be child focused and family driven, community based, and culturally and linguistically competent.

"At a time when many nonprofit and service organizations across the country are struggling financially, these grants will benefit thousands of children, youth, and their families in the Houston community," said Hogg Foundation executive director Dr. Octavio N. Martinez, Jr. "Miss Ima Hogg's vision, caring, and concern for children and families lives on in the community she loved through her generous gift."
