Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center Receives $3 Million From Brin Foundation

The Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center in Sunnyvale, California, has announced a $3 million lead challenge grant from the Brin Foundation to its $15 million capital campaign.

A portion of the funds raised by the campaign will be used to support capital improvements in the institute's newly expanded facilities, including the construction of advanced research labs and purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, and will also enable the institute to hire more scientific researchers. Additional funds will be used to expand the institute's research staff and accelerate efforts to find the causes and a cure for Parkinson's disease, develop more effective, high-quality patient care, and significantly expand clinical trials for new drugs to improve treatment of Parkinson's patients.

According to the institute, approximately one million people in the United States have Parkinson's disease — a number that is expected to double by 2030.

"This capital campaign will allow us not only to continue cutting-edge research, but also to expand it dramatically, while at the same time ensuring that we will continue to deliver compassionate care of the highest quality to our patients," said Parkinson's Institute founder and CEO J. William Langston. "We are thrilled to be in a new expanded facility that makes all of this possible."
