Equal Justice Society Receives $1 Million From Kellogg Foundation
The Equal Justice Society has announced a three-year, $1 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for its ongoing efforts to address structural racial inequities, restore equal protection jurisprudence, and help build a "Grant Alliance" for the racial justice advocacy movement.
Using public-policy advocacy, cross-disciplinary convenings, and strategic public communications, EJS works to insert race equity issues into the national conversation, strengthen progressive alliances, and advance the discourse on the positive role of government. The grant will enhance the organization's capacity to improve the understanding and consideration of race in the law and minimize or remove barriers to equal opportunity while fostering a public platform that encompasses a wide range of individuals, organizations, and movements working together to achieve common goals and a collective vision.
EJS expects to create a culture of and infrastructure for engaging in "cross-silo" organizing and strategizing, while educating its members and allies. The organization's advocacy agenda includes issues such as equal opportunity, marriage equality, and progressive immigration reform.
"We are deeply grateful for the Kellogg Foundation's generosity and its recognition of our work to move us closer to a society where race is no longer a barrier to opportunity," said EJS co-founder and president Eva Paterson. "EJS can now more aggressively pursue initiatives that have a long-term impact on the progressive and racial justice movements."
