Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation Awards $2.3 Million in Fourth-Quarter Grants
The Baton Rouge-based Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation has announced fourth-quarter grants totaling almost $2.3 million to nonprofits working to provide affordable housing, support small businesses, and promote civic engagement and grassroots leadership in vulnerable Louisiana communities.
Funded in part by $24.4 million from the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund, LDRF has awarded $33 million in grants to provide immediate relief and support for survivors of hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Ike. Through the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund, the Greater New Orleans Disaster Recovery Partnership will receive $500,000 for a disaster case-management pilot program designed to transition Katrina survivors from FEMA-supported temporary housing into long-term sustainable housing, while Global Green USA will receive $100,000 for an initiative designed to educate up to two thousand Louisiana residents about the benefits of greater energy and water efficiency and improving indoor air quality as they rebuild or improve their homes.
Grants through LDRF's civic engagement fund include $100,000 to the Annenberg Institute for School Reform to provide the New Orleans-based Emerging Knowledge Forum with knowledge-building strategies in human capital development, and $50,000 to the Central City Renaissance Alliance to hire a full-time community organizer to focus and support the activities of Central City residents on a year-long effort to design, launch, and implement a neighborhood development plan.
LDRF Grants Nearly $2.3M to Louisiana Nonprofits.
