St. David's Community Health Foundation Awards $5.2 Million
St. David's Community Health Foundation in Austin, Texas, has announced grants totaling nearly $5.2 million to nonprofits working to provide access to health care for residents of the region.
The majority of the grants — more than $3.7 million — was awarded to primary care and specialty clinics, including $1.7 million to the People's Community Clinic, $990,000 to the Lone Star Circle of Care, and $500,000 to El Buen Samaritano. Additional grants totaling nearly $928,000 were awarded to organizations that provide services to older adults, including $144,550 to Faith in Action Caregivers, $140,000 to Meals on Wheels and More Austin, and $130,000 to the Round Rock Area Serving Center.
Grants to organizations working to provide health and/or dental care to special populations include $110,000 to the Breast Cancer Resource Center, $40,000 to Easter Seals Central Texas, and $25,000 each to AIDS Services of Austin and Manos de Cristo.
"Especially this year, we are mindful of the need to ensure access to health care for Central Texans," said St. David's CEO Earl Maxwell. "The ongoing economic downturn, increased layoffs, and employment cutbacks have highlighted a crucial need in our community. With an 8 percent increase in our grants, we hope these receiving organizations are able to provide reliable, affordable, and effective care to Central Texans who are uninsured and underserved."
