Oxfam America Receives $500,000 From Not On Our Watch

Not On Our Watch, a humanitarian watchdog group founded by Hollywood luminaries Don Cheadle, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, David Pressman, and Jerry Weintraub, has announced a $500,000 grant to Oxfam America for its work in eastern Chad to provide relief and assistance to victims of the violence in the Chad-Darfur region.

The grant will support Oxfam's efforts to help avert future hunger crises; improve access to clean water, cultivable land, and farming techniques; and generate income for some 200,000 displaced individuals and their host communities. Plagued with continuing violence, a lack of basic services, and depleted food rations, refugees and displaced individuals in the region are becoming increasingly vulnerable to hunger, disease, and poverty.

"Living on the brink of disaster, any additional factor could result in a sudden crisis for the people of Chad," said Oxfam America president Raymond C. Offenheiser. "The funding from Not On Our Watch helps Oxfam to plan for the future and will help thousands of people to provide for themselves during lean times."
