Calamus Foundation, Atlantic Philanthropies Award $1.5 Million to Assist Gay Seniors
Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender Elders (SAGE) has announced multiyear grants totaling $1.5 million from the Calamus Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies in support of its new strategic plan.
Calamus awarded a four-year, $1 million matching grant to the organization, which it will use to create new services for older LGBT adults in New York City, advocate on a national level for policy changes and funding for LGBT senior programs, and provide technical assistance to replicate SAGE's service programs nationwide. A two-year, $500,000 grant from Atlantic Philanthropies will be used to help build capacity on the organization's board, execute the organization's strategic plan, and build a national LGBT aging network while developing partnerships with key agencies in the aging field.
"In challenging economic times, it's important to be strategic in maintaining funding that sustains our work long-term," said SAGE executive director Michael Adams. "These multiyear grants are designed to help SAGE build for a long, successful future of serving and advocating for LGBT older adults across the country."
