Ford Foundation Announces $6.7 Million in Grants to Boost Michigan Economy
The Ford Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $6.7 million to programs in Michigan working to revitalize depressed neighborhoods, encourage civic engagement and youth leadership, and expand access to education, training, and equal employment.
Awarded between June and October, the grants include $2 million to the Detroit Economic Growth Association to implement a foreclosure prevention and response program and $1 million each to the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion for its Community Reconciliation program, the Detroit NAACP to improve the social justice environment in the city, and the Genesee County Land Bank Authority to restore the historic Durant Hotel in Flint.
In addition, the foundation awarded $880,000 to Legal Services of South Central Michigan for an initiative designed to prevent foreclosures and provide legal representation to homeowners facing foreclosure; $500,000 to the Eastern Market Advancement Corporation to make healthy foods available to low-income residents of Detroit; and $350,000 to the Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength for its anti-poverty and regional equity campaigns in metropolitan Detroit.
