Piper Trust Awards Second Round of Community Relief Grants
Piper Trust Awards Second Round of Community Relief Grants
The Phoenix-based Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust has announced a second round of Community Relief Grants as part of its $1 million commitment to aid Maricopa County nonprofits providing direct assistance to the community.
The trust awarded a total of $275,000 to eleven organizations serving individuals, families, and homeless youth. Grantees include André House of Arizona and the Association of Arizona Food Banks, in support of meal services; and HomeBase Youth Services and Maggie's Place, for emergency housing services. In addition, the trust made $200,000 in community relief grants to four human services agencies last month, and plans to allocate the remaining $525,000 before March 31, 2009.
"Piper trustees made this commitment to provide relief to organizations strained to the breaking point as costs have mounted and donations have dropped," said Piper Trust president and CEO Judy Jolley Mohraz. "We also encourage individuals to stretch in this holiday period when nonprofits often raise as much as half of their annual operating revenue."
