McCormick Foundation Launches Hurricane Ike Disaster Relief Campaign
The Chicago-based McCormick Foundation has announced the launch of a disaster relief campaign to support nonprofits providing disaster response and recovery assistance to people and communities affected by Hurricane Ike, which battered the Texas Gulf Coast over the weekend.
The foundation will match the first $2 million raised at 50 cents on the dollar and will cover, with its partners, all administrative costs associated with the campaign. Partners in the campaign include the Chicago Tribune, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Colorado Rockies, CW11 New York/WPIX-TV, the Denver Newspaper Agency, Fox 61 Hartford/WTIC-TV, KTLA-TV Los Angeles, Newsday, the North County Times, and WGN Radio.
The foundation has initiated disaster relief campaigns after a number of recent disasters, including 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, last year’s wildfires in Southern California, and flooding in the Midwest earlier this year. The foundation’s Hurricane Katrina relief effort raised more than $9.4 million for charities working in the region, including the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest).
