California
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced the creation of a new department designed to enhance and expand the foundation's support for corporate philanthropy. The foundation has appointed Catherine Gowen as senior director of the business services department, which will focus on corporate-advised funds and identifying new ways for corporations and private foundations to work with the community foundation. SVCF also has named Helen Dannelly its new senior director of development.
The San Diego Foundation has promoted Anna-Marie Rooney to vice president of marketing and communications.
Colorado
The Denver-based
Rose Community Foundation
has appointed Whitney Connor as program officer for its health programs and Anita Wesley as philanthropy advisor.
Illinois
The Waukegan-based Lake County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Chicago Community Trust, has announced fifteen grants totaling almost $275,000. With the latest grants, the five-year-old foundation has exceeded $1 million in awards.
Ohio
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced 176 grants totaling more than $150,000 through its Grants for Kids programs. Grants of up to $1,000 were awarded to local schools to fund innovative educational projects for area youth.
The Barbertown Community Foundation has announced that small grants totaling up to $25,000 are available to neighborhood groups that will provide a dollar-for-dollar match, through cash, volunteer time, or in-kind donations, to complete projects designed to better their neighborhoods.
Tennessee
The Nashville-based Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has named Susan Carter as infant mortality reduction coordinator, Ava Gold as donor services assistant, and Tina Randolph as administrative assistant.
Texas
The Dallas-based Communities Foundation of Texas and Educational First Steps have announced a town-hall conversation with Darian Rodriguez Heyman, executive director of the Craigslist Foundation, and Tim Bray, executive director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research. The free event will be held on September 16 at the Mabel Peters Caruth Center, and the speakers will discuss community involvement, philanthropy, and voluntarism among the next generation.
Washington
The Seattle Foundation has announced second-quarter grants totaling $1.2 million for programs working to improve the lives of Puget Sound-area residents. The grants were distributed using the foundation's healthy communities framework, which focuses on the seven core elements of a healthy community: arts and culture, basic needs, economy, education, environmental stewardship, health and wellness, and neighborhoods and communities. Recipients include ArtsWest, the Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation, and EarthCorps.
