Prostate Cancer Foundation Awards $4.3 Million to Young Scientists

The Prostate Cancer Foundation in Santa Monica, California, has announced the first grants, totaling $4.3 million, in its Young Investigators awards program.

Designed to encourage the most innovative thinkers to continue their careers in prostate cancer research, the program will award three-year grants totaling $225,000 to nineteen scientists, most of whom are 35 or younger. The awards, which are matched by the recipients' institutions, will provide career and project support for researchers who have already achieved junior faculty positions and are committing their careers to the field of prostate cancer.

"The research proposals focused on 16 different prostate cancer research areas," said Howard Soule, executive vice president and chief science officer for PCF. "The applicants represented seven medical and scientific disciplines including medical oncology, radiation oncology, urology, pathology, imaging science, and many areas of molecular science. Supporting a focus on prostate cancer by talented, young investigators is critical to realizing PCF's goal of accelerating breakthrough discoveries that can potentially end death and suffering from prostate cancer."
