Barr Foundation, InnoCentive to Award Prize for Energy-Efficient Air Conditioning Design
The Barr Foundation, in collaboration with the Cambridge Energy Alliance and InnoCentive, Inc., a leader in prize-based open innovation sourcing, have announced a $30,000 prize for the design of a radically energy-efficient method of cooling and dehumidifying residential and small commercial spaces.
To be administered by InnoCentive as part of the recently established Clean Tech and Renewable Energy Pavilion supported by the Boston-based foundation, the Boston Innovation Challenge for Energy-Efficient Air Conditioning will encourage innovations that make a difference locally but will also have an impact globally.
The competition, which will be judged by a panel of experts from around the country, will accept design proposals applicable to existing building stock in urban settings located in humid regions of the country. A second phase of the competition may include invitations to a select group of entrants to build prototypes of their designs.
"Clean technology has emerged from just a prominent buzzword to an industrious and critical sector. The products and services in development today hinge on the mission that we can decrease our global footprint and in some cases perhaps reverse the damage already done," said InnoCentive CEO Dwayne Spradlin. "Organizations like the Barr Foundation should be commended for their efforts to support the development of eco-friendly products."
