BNY Mellon Charitable Foundation Awards $1.3 Million to Pittsburgh Nonprofits
The Bank of New York Mellon Charitable Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $1.3 million to sixteen Pittsburgh-area nonprofits.
Grants ranging from $30,000 to $300,000 were awarded to organizations working in areas such as economic development, affordable housing, arts and culture, education, and literacy. The awards include $100,000 to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh for construction of the Hill District branch library; $35,000 to the Extra Mile Education Foundation for tuition assistance; $100,000 to the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council to develop a fund for audience development initiatives; $75,000 to New Century Careers for a strategic review of its workforce training services; and $150,000 to the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh for renovations to the Hill District Center Avenue Y.
"We remain committed to western Pennsylvania and the organizations that so dramatically continue to impact our quality of life," said James P. McDonald, president of the foundation. "Our philanthropy is focused on the pillars of a strong community — education and literacy, affordable housing and economic development, health and wellness, and arts and culture."
