Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors Establishes Fund for Chinese Earthquake Survivors
Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors has announced that it is coordinating a donor appeal through the Bridge Fund to provide direct relief to survivors of the Sichuan earthquake in China.
The initiative, the Bridge Fund Sichuan Earthquake Compassion Fund, will work with the China Charity Federation, the Sichuan International Friendship Association, and the Sichuan Red Cross to assist approximately one hundred thousand people affected by the earthquake over the next year. The fund will be used to provide critical supplies such as food, drinking water, tents, quilts, warm clothes, jerry cans, kitchen sets, lighting equipment, and medical services, including disease control. In addition, it will support a second phase of community rebuilding efforts, especially in the remote areas of Aba Prefecture, to assist Chinese and Tibetans who have been injured or lost jobs and homes.
A special project of RPA, the Bridge Fund has developed long-standing relationships with local and national Chinese charitable organizations since it was established twelve years ago, including extensive collaborations with organizations in Sichuan Province. The fund is designed to help raise $19.3 million for relief efforts conducted by the
Red Cross Society of China.
"The Bridge Fund will make use of its strong, deeply rooted relationships with non-governmental organizations based in Sichuan Province," said RPA president and CEO Melissa Berman, "providing a unique opportunity for donors who want the assurance that their contributions will have a direct impact and bring immediate relief to those who are undergoing such suffering."
