Piper Trust Awards $2.5 Million to Benefit Arizona Children
The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust has announced grants totaling $2.5 million to seven programs that benefit children in Maricopa County, Arizona.
The grants will support efforts to improve early childhood education, music and science education, leadership programming for at-risk girls, pet therapy, and child abuse prevention. Awards include $1 million to the Arizona Science Center to help revitalize its exhibits, programs, and facilities; $800,000 to the Boy Scouts of America - Grand Canyon Council to help upgrade facilities and expand programs; and $300,000 to Teach For America in Phoenix to launch a pilot early childhood education initiative designed to place corps members in pre-kindergarten programs in low-income areas.
"Children's well-being is the best barometer of a community's well-being," said Piper president and CEO Judy Jolley Mohraz. "The trust is pleased to partner with nonprofits committed to improving the lives of our youngest children, as well as school-age children and adolescents."
