Robert H. Smith Family Foundation Pledges $15 Million to Hebrew University of Jerusalem
The Robert H. Smith Family Foundation in Arlington, Virginia, has pledged $15 million to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to promote sustainable agriculture, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports.
The gift, part of the school's $51 million Feeding the Future Through Sustainable Agriculture campaign, was designated for the Faculty of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Quality Sciences in Rehovot to support the reorganization and expansion of its interdisciplinary research in plant and animal sciences, biochemistry, nutrition, and environmental studies. The project encompasses new buildings, state-of-the-art laboratories and greenhouses, and increased support for collaborative work at four academic institutions to address such challenges as hunger and malnutrition, natural resource scarcity, and the impact of global warming.
In honor of the gift, the program will be renamed the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Quality Sciences.
