Mitchell Foundation Creates $6 Million Energy and Climate Change Program

The Cynthia & George Mitchell Foundation in Woodlands, Texas, has announced a $6 million initiative to advance renewable energy technologies in the Lone Star state.

The three-year initiative will work to support technical and economic analysis, model policy development, and educate policy makers in an effort to spur the development of clean-energy markets and meet the state's energy needs while reducing pollution and growing the economy. To implement the initiative, the foundation will partner with the Energy Foundation, a San Francisco-based coalition of donors working to solve the world's energy problems.

According to Energy Foundation president Eric Heitz, Texas already leads the nation in power generated from wind and should "think big" about energy efficiency, solar power, and other clean advanced technologies.

"This new program will continue my father's focus on sustainability in Texas," said Mitchell Foundation president Meredith Dreiss. "Texas has tremendous clean technology potential. We hope this initiative can help deploy it, benefiting Texas businesses, consumers, and the environment."
