Safeco Foundation Awards $1.5 Million to Three Seattle Organizations
Safeco Foundation Awards Initial Grants to Seattle Organizations
The Safeco Insurance Foundation has announced grants totaling $1.5 million to three Seattle-based organizations.
The $500,000 grants — the first to be made by the year-old foundation — were awarded to the Northwest African-American Museum, the Wing Luke Asian Museum, and the Seattle Parks Foundation for their respective capital campaigns. NAAM is constructing a facility in the former Colman School that is scheduled to open later this year. The Wing Luke's remodeled building will open in the spring. And the Seattle Parks Foundation will use its grant for construction of a bridge connecting the two sides of Lake Union Park.
"We are honored to be able to support the powerful work of [these] organizations," said Virginia Anderson, president of the Safeco Insurance Foundation. "With our first grants, the Safeco Insurance Foundation supports three extraordinary projects — and the organizations that have brought them to fruition — that celebrate the diverse heritage of Seattle and provide for the success of its future."
