Pew Charitable Trusts Award $9 Million to Philadelphia Nonprofits
The Pew Charitable Trusts have announced $9 million in grants, to be awarded over the next three years, to forty-eight Philadelphia-area nonprofits serving disadvantaged children, youth, and families.
The grants reflect the priorities of the Pew Fund for Health and Human Services in Philadelphia — to help improve the quality of local child care and early education programs; offer prevention and intervention services for children displaying early signs of social and emotional problems; help caregivers and parents of children with mental health problems find appropriate services for the children; and increase opportunities for disadvantaged youth to achieve academically and make useful contributions to their communities.
Grants announced by the trusts include $360,000 to Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania for continued support of Youth First; $300,000 to the Children's Hospital Foundation to provide behavioral health screening, counseling, and referrals for young children in west and south Philadelphia; $270,000 to Philadelphia Citizens for Children and Youth to expand its Child Health Watch Helpline; and $240,000 to the Project Forward Leap Foundation to provide educational enrichment and support to low-income middle and high school students in Philadelphia and Chester, Pennsylvania.
"We are pleased to be able to help these organizations carry out their vital work with young people, one of Philadelphia's most vulnerable groups, and we applaud their excellence and effectiveness in doing so," said Frazierita D. Klasen, deputy director of Local Programs, Health and Human Services at Pew. "We share with them a deep commitment to improving the lives and futures of our youth and their families."
