Goldman Sachs Foundation Awards $9.4 Million for Education, Leadership Development

The New York City-based Goldman Sachs Foundation has announced $9.4 million in grants in support of its commitment to the academic and leadership development of young people around the world.

Awarded to programs in the United States, Europe, and Asia, the grants will promote math and science education and improve access to colleges and universities for promising students from under-represented and disadvantaged backgrounds. They include awards totaling $1.5 million to the University of Manchester, the University of Birmingham and the University of Nottingham to replicate the Masterclass program, which prepares secondary school students from disadvantaged urban backgrounds to enroll and succeed at top universities across the United Kingdom. The foundation also awarded $1.4 million to the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh to launch the school's Access Program, and $500,000 to the University of Southern California to replicate a college-access program developed by its Center for Higher Education Policy Analysis in five of Los Angeles' poorest inner-city schools.
