Council on Foundations Creates National Standards Seal for Community Foundations
The Council on Foundations has awarded its new National Standards Seal to 260 community foundations for attaining the highest standards for grantmaking integrity and accountability.
The standards, created by the council and leaders of the community foundation field in 2000, establish legal, ethical, and effective operational practices and highlight best practices in the areas of transparency and financial accountability. The National Standards program requires community foundations to document their performance in donor services, investment management, grantmaking, and administration.
"This [seal] is critically important to the millions of people who give to and through community foundations," said CoF president and CEO Steve Gunderson. "The National Standards confirmation says this house is in order, it's financially secure, and it can be trusted to meet its commitments."
