Lennar Gives $1 Million to Girls and Boys Town of Southern California
Santa Ana-based Girls and Boys Town of Southern California has received $1 million in cash and building materials from the Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Lennar Homes, to build its third emergency-assessment center and shelter in Los Angeles County.
In partnership with HomeAid and Lennar Homes, the organization will build a center/shelter in Compton to provide underprivileged children with a safe environment where they can gain confidence and learn skills needed to become productive citizens. Lennar Homes is currently working on three other shelter projects in Los Angeles and Ventura counties that are scheduled to open later this year.
While the mission of Girls and Boys Town is to assist children and families in crisis, the organization currently does not have the facilities to meet the rising demand for emergency placements. The Compton facility will extend the organization's reach, allowing it to help hundreds of abused and neglected youth who are working to turn their lives around.
