2006 William T. Grant Scholars Announced

2006 William T. Grant Scholars Announced

The New York City-based William T. Grant Foundation has announced the latest class of William T. Grant Scholars, each of whom will receive $300,000 over five years to support their research.

Through the program, the foundation supports the work of postdoctoral researchers from diverse disciplines pursuing research on young people and the various contexts in which youth interact. The annual award program, now in its twenty-sixth year, has funded 124 researchers since its inception.

This year's Grant Scholars and their research projects are Valerie Leiter, assistant professor of sociology at Simmons College ("Transition to Adulthood Among Youth With Disabilities"); Emily Ozer, assistant professor of community health and human development at the University of California, Berkeley's School of Public Health ("Adolescents as Resources in School-Based Prevention"); Devah Pager, assistant professor of sociology and population research at Princeton University ("Barriers in the Pathway to Adulthood: The Role of Discrimination in the Lives of Young Disadvantaged Men"); Laura Romo, assistant professor of child and adolescent development at the University of California, Santa Barbara's Gervitz Graduate School of Education ("Designing Contextually Relevant Workshops to Enhance Latina Mother-Daughter Communication About Sexual Topics"); and Kevin Roy, assistant professor of family studies at the University of Maryland ("Intergenerational Influences on Men's Transitions to Adulthood").

"The goal of this program is to identify exceptional early career scholars and give them the financing, mentorship, and interdisciplinary experiences to make them even better," said foundation president Dr. Robert C. Granger.
