Niagara University to Receive $5 Million for College of Business Administration
Niagara University in western New York has announced a $5 million gift from alumnus Jerry Bisgrove that will be used, among other things, to help build a $19.4 million academic complex.
The majority of the gift the largest single donation in the Catholic school's 149-year history will support construction of new facilities for the college of business administration, from which Bisgrove received a degree in 1968. In the spring, the university will break ground for Bisgrove Hall, part of the complex that will also house the college of education.
According to Patrick A. Hanley, vice president for institutional advancement at Niagara, $500,000 of Bisgrove's gift will be used to establish the Father Joseph G. Dunne College of Business Administration Academic Programming Endowment. The late Fr. Dunne, whom Bisgrove considers a major influence on his life, served at NU for more than twenty years in various capacities, including executive vice president and director of student financial aid.
A native of Auburn, New York, Bisgrove is chairman and CEO of
Stardust Companies, a real estate development company in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the founder and president of the Stardust Foundation, which supports housing programs for low-income people. "Countless times I have come to rely on the values and strong ethics that were so much a part of my Niagara education," said Bisgrove. "I am indebted to members of the faculty and the Vincentian fathers and brothers, especially Father Joe Dunne, who was a mentor and friend."
