Julliard Receives $25 Million for Scholarships, Expansion
The Juilliard School in New York City has received a $25 million gift from Bruce Kovner, chairman of hedge fund management firm Caxton Associates, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The gift, the largest the arts school has ever received from an individual, will bolster an endowment that supports scholarships, faculty salaries, and ongoing operational expenses. It will also support the school's plan to add a wing to its main building that will include classrooms, practice rooms, performance space, and a technology center where students can create and perform music and dance.
"It's important to my own sense of values that the arts are supported, and we have to pass them along by education to every generation," said Kovner, an amateur pianist who also chairs the Juilliard board.
Gift of the Week/Perfect Pitch.
