Community Foundation Investments Gained Average 10.8 Percent in 2004
Community foundations have posted double-digit investment returns for the second year in a row, a new report from the Council on Foundations finds.
According to the report, 2004 Investment Performance and Practices of Community Foundations, community foundations gained an average of 10.8 percent on their investments in 2004. The report also reveals that the substantial consecutive-year gains have increased three-year median returns to levels just below 7 percent. A total of 169 foundations, representing 42 percent of community foundations with assets of $5 million or more and 66 percent of those with assets of $25 million or more, participated in this year's report.
"The report reflects the wise investment choices of community foundations," said Colburn S. Wilbur, interim president and CEO of the Council on Foundations. "Their strength and ingenuity have put them in financial positions that better serve their communities."
