Executive Director

Based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the Institute for Community Engagement (IFCE) was created to enhance the ability of elected officials, the nonprofit sector and the community to work together to build healthy communities and to address issues that affect vulnerable populations in southern New Mexico. The threefold mission of the IFCE is to:

1) research and facilitate policy development,

2) educate and network formal and informal community leaders, organizations and agencies to help implement positive change and

3) support the development of new organizations and new initiatives that align with IFCE's mission and vision.

IFCE is now seeking its first Executive Director with an established track record in leading and scaling an organization, developing and executing growth strategies, and building partnerships to lead the continued development and growth of this organization. The Executive Director will have a deep appreciation and passion for the importance of collective action to achieve sustainable systemic change.

An ability to develop trust within the local community and with key funding organizations is essential, as is a strong commitment to racial and social equity and engagement of local community leaders. This is a high profile opportunity for a dynamic professional with excellent personal relations skills and demonstrated abilities to scale up operations, manage senior level staff, and externally communicate organizational mission and values.

IFCE will consider candidates with a range of career profiles whose core values and leadership profile match the demands of the Executive Director role. The Executive Director will report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to implement the organization’s organizational and programmatic goals. Position is dependent upon funding.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Executive Director's primary role will be to execute the mission and strategic plan of the Institute. Other responsibilities will include developing and maintaining partnerships in the public, private and nonprofit sectors, grantwriting and fundraising, scaling up the organization and financial oversight, and will include the following:

• Represent and promote the organization externally to appropriate stakeholders for fundraising and partnership opportunities, and enhance the IFCE community through a variety of engagement activities, including in-person meetings, conferences, and networking occasions.
• Lead the growth of the organization by assisting in the recruitment and development of board members.
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors to forecast and implement a 3-year rolling budget and ensure resources are sufficient to carry out current programs as well as future goals based on the strategic plan.
• Oversee the financial strength of the organization including developing long and short range financial priorities accurately to support the needs of the program and staff, monitoring the budget, and ensuring sound financial controls are in place.
• Take responsibility for programmatic activities of the IFCE, including our developing collective impact initiative in education.
• Share the values of the IFCE as reflected in our mission and goals.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to function effectively within the social and linguistic culture of Southern New Mexico
• Shares the values of the IFCE as reflected in our mission and goals.
• Substantive, relevant work experience in a managerial role, with experience and/or understanding of nonprofit issues a plus
• Demonstrated success in securing funding for and scaling up an organization or a business/program
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to attract funders and partners by communicating a compelling and inspired sense of purpose
• Superior external communications skills, including public speaking and media management experience, as well as enthusiasm for speaking in public
• Proven management skills with experience to plan, organize, and execute a program of work, analyze and solve complex issues, obtain significant funding support, and work closely with a board of directors and/or senior management
• Record of sound financial management and budget management
• Demonstrated ability to work in an environment that celebrates teamwork.
• Ability to negotiate and close complex or sensitive agreements in a manner that builds consensus
• Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree a plus
• Passion for and experience with working on issues of social justice, equality and collective action for community change
• Experience and/or established network in public source funding a plus
• Must be able to pass a background screen.
