Job Summary: The Development Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, designing and implementing strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals making unrestricted and restricted gifts of $2,500 to $25,000 to The Children’s Aid Society. This position requires a highly organized, passionate and creative individual to work directly with the Director of Major Gifts and Vice President of Development in creating fund-raising strategies and developing relationships with individual donors to bring the major gifts revenue stream to a new level of success. This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule potentially available.

Specific Duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of 150-200 donors, including identification, solicitation and cultivation of existing major donors and prospect donors, with objective to increase the number of major donors and the amount given by current major donors;
  • Work with Director of Major Gifts and Vice President of Development to manage the major gift fundraising efforts, including identification, solicitation and cultivation of existing major donors and prospect donors, with objective to increase the number of major donors and the amount given by current donors
  • Work with Director of Major Gifts to coordinate the solicitation plans for existing major donors, including the establishment of donor follow-up, stewardship, and involvement programs;
  • Work with Director of Major Gifts to implement and expand the major donor giving program, including materials development, direct solicitation, and mail and on-line appeals to major donors;
  • Work with Director of Major Gifts to manage and oversee CEO’s major gift prospects and development calendar;
  • Write and edit solicitation and stewardship materials;
  • Conduct in-person meetings with prospects and donors;
  • Identify major donor prospects from both the CAS database and external sources;
  • Work closely with Director of Major Gifts to identify and cultivate planned giving prospects;
  • Organize major donor cultivation events and donor site visits, including identifying speakers;
  • Make strategic recommendations to Special Events team regarding major donors, including but not limited to: invitation list, seating placement, recognition, acknowledgement and follow-up;
  • Work with Manager, Research and Donor information to improve protocols for Major Donor gift processing and acknowledgement;
  • Assist in creation of annual Major Donor development plan, including income goals and expense budget, strategies for donor and prospect cultivations, solicitation and stewardship;
  • Support donor database management system by ensuring that hard and soft records are up-to-date and accurate;
  • Maintain confidentiality of all donor-related information;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Major Gifts or Vice President of Development.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 5 years of proven development experience;
  • Experience working with high profile donors and a record of securing gifts;
  • Must have exemplary written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to listen effectively and to speak and write eloquently about Children’s Aid’s programs; enthusiastic and good telephone skills;
  • Collaborative and energetic work style, superior people skills, and ability to motivate and build consensus;
  • Maturity, poise, initiative, and flexibility to handle complex situations and sensitivity to handle confidential information with professionalism;
  • Strong planning, administrative and organizational skills; ability to prioritize, manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, work independently and within a team; ability to work under pressure;
  • Information management skills, knowledge of Raiser's Edge donor tracking software desirable;
  • Proficient with Windows-based word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, PowerPoint and the Internet.
