Museum of Arts and Design - Manager of Major Gifts

The Museum of Arts and Design, the nation’s premier contemporary arts institution exploring the intersection of craft, design and art, seeks a creative, strategic, and highly-motivated professional with five to seven years’ fundraising experience for the new position of Manager of Major Gifts.

The Manager will support and advance the Major Gifts effort at the Museum of Arts and Design, functioning both in an operational and strategic capacity to assist the Vice President of Major Gifts in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individuals with the capacity to provide gifts in the $10,000 and above range, and to provide excellent stewardship for current donors.

Critically, this position is responsible for maintaining and helping to grow a robust pipeline of major gifts prospects, and will have his or her own portfolio of donors and prospects to manage. As such, the individual must work collaboratively and productively with all members of the development team, as well as the Museum’s Director, curators, program staff, and key volunteers.

Duties include:

  • Responsibility for managing and growing the major donors group, including renewals, new solicitations,management of annual schedule of related events, and other stewardship activities
  • Prospect research and management of prospect profiles and rating system
  • Proposal writing and/or editing
  • Implementing and maintaining a master calendar and moves management system for entire Major Gifts effort
  • Scheduling of meetings, writing of talking points, assembling presentations and full meeting prep for the Vice President, Director, and Trustees
  • Write timely gift acknowledgements and follow-up correspondence as needed

Qualifications:

  • B.A.or higher degree, preferably in humanities
  • Five to seven years’ experience in individual giving or membership fundraising, preferably in a cultural institution or institution of higher education
  • Superior writing, analytical, and research skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Mature judgment, discretion, and ability to work with people at all levels of the organization
  • Highly organized; ability to meet tight deadlines, multitask, and respond nimbly to priorities
  • High level of computer literacy, including mastery of Microsoft Office applications, knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or equivalent fundraising database system; and experience using online databases and other sources to locate financial and philanthropic information
