International Center for Transitional Justice - Communications Coordinator

Assist in the development, design, editing and distribution of communications collateral; coordinate the maintenance and expansion of the English website, overall web presence, newsletter and other mailing outreach. Support other communications functions through the maintenance of communications calendar, invoicing and budget tracking, publications inventory and other administrative tasks. The role is based at ICTJ’s headquarters in New York and reports to the Director of Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Under direction of the Online Strategy Manager coordinate content on English website, which can include: developing and maintaining site content calendar; sourcing, writing, editing and posting features, events and other non-static material; scheduling and editing static page updates; news feed creation and management.
  2. Under direction of the Online Strategy Manager, coordinate web visibility including: maintaining and growing presence on Facebook, LinkedIn and Jumo; developing and maintaining Twitter feed; establishing and maintaining podcast channel on iTunes; developing strategy for YouTube and Flickr; expanding and strengthening transitional justice related articles on Wikipedia; other platform utilization as opportunities arise.
  3. Assist in the implementation of ICTJ’s mailing strategy to constituents, targeted distribution of events calendar, ICTJ publications, press releases and other materials.
  4. Produce and distribute bi-weekly newsletter: this could include sourcing, conducting and editing monthly Q&A or other feature; daily news aggregation and creation of weekly or bi-weekly feeds (world report equivalent).
  5. Maintain communications department calendar.
  6. Perform administrative tasks and provide logistical support for the Communications department as required including: maintaining general inbox (communications@ictj.org); processing invoices and tracking expenses; managing publications inventory; attending and reporting on DPI briefings.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required specialization in communications, journalism, international relations, public policy, or other relevant field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of professional communications experience, preferably in human rights and/or international programs.

Related Skills or Knowledge: Superb writing, editing and proofreading capabilities; ability to translate complex issues into clear, simple ideas; outstanding presentation/oral and written communication/interpersonal skills; ability to multitask and manage projects under pressure, adhering to strict deadlines; highly organized with extreme attention to detail; ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong interest in international affairs, particularly human rights; advanced knowledge of MS Office and databases; knowledge of design software, Drupal and HTML; fluency in a foreign language, esp. French, Spanish or Arabic desirable.
