Catalog for Giving - Executive Director

The Catalog for Giving of New York City (www.catalogforgiving.org) is seeking an Executive Director to develop and implement new fundraising initiatives that expand the organization’s current operations, promote awareness of The Catalog and its member organizations, oversee its annual fundraising campaign, and develop strategic plans that further our mission. We are looking for a creative, dynamic and energetic fundraiser, a persuasive advocate who can lead the Catalog and help raise millions of dollars for New York City organizations serving kids.

Candidate must have a proven track record of fundraising or new business generation in the non-profit or for-profit sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement new and ongoing fundraising strategies
  • Oversee the Catalog’s Annual Benefit and related Special Events
  • Identify and engage potential and existing Board Members, Honorary Board Members, Sponsors, and Major Donors
  • Make individual asks for gifts from potential moderate and major donors
  • Promote awareness of The Catalog and its grantee organizations
  • Manage selection of member organizations and perform periodic reviews of their activities to ensure compliance with stated mission and goals
  • Maintain fiscal and budgetary oversight of The Catalog for Giving
  • Engage and support member organizations by connecting them to potential board members, donors, foundations
  • Oversee and engage staff and volunteers and promote staff’s professional growth

Key Activities:

  • Initiate, cultivate, and develop relationships with potential major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations, including donor identification, research and face-to-face asks
  • Be the "face" of The Catalog by attending functions that promote awareness of our mission and of our member organizations
  • Develop short and long-term strategic plans for the growth of the organization
  • Initiate and follow through on new fundraising strategies
  • Explore and capitalize on existing synergies that would benefit our member organizations
  • Engage and work closely with the entire Board to ensure success of initiatives and strategic goals
  • Maintain communication with grantee organizations to ensure continued engagement and responsiveness
  • Oversee the financial and operational activities of The Catalog
  • Engage, delegate, and support staff development to ensure continuity, stability, and professional growth

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hands-on fundraising or new business generation in the nonprofit or for-profit sector
  • Self directed professional with entrepreneurial attitude
  • Management experience in non-profit or for-profit sector with track record in successful delegation and staff development
  • Proven success in fundraising or business origination, preferably in New York City
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Strong team building skills
  • Experience dealing with high level executives
  • Internet, computer, and database savvy – working knowledge of social media
  • Experience with budgeting and finance
  • Superior writing and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to reach out to many different constituencies – comfortable with CEO’s as well as grass roots organizers
  • Passion for Catalog’s mission and commitment to serving youth

Additional Qualifications Preferred:

  • Knowledge of NYC foundations, corporations, government and other funders
  • Advanced degree
  • Experience working with youth-serving organizations
  • Familiarity with community-based organizations and issues
  • Demonstrated experience in development planning, major gifts and donor research
