Principal Gifts Officer

Dynamic, growing non-profit organization with a strong funding base and an entrepreneurial atmosphere seeks an energetic, strategic, and seasoned fundraiser to take it to the next level.

Climate Central is an independent organization of leading scientists and journalists researching and reporting the facts about our changing climate and its impact on the American public. Founded in 2008 by academic leaders at Princeton, Yale and Stanford, Climate Central brings together top-notch journalists and internationally recognized scientists to provide a bridge between the public and climate scientists and contribute in a pivotal way to the national effort to communicate the facts of climate science.

The Principal Gifts Officer will collaborate with Board and staff members to develop and drive Climate Central’s growing individual gifts program. This position is ideal for a sophisticated, mission-oriented professional with a track record of identifying potential donors, cultivating relationships and closing gifts of $1M and above. Working in partnership with the VP for Development, the Principal Gifts Officer will help to shape Climate Central’s fundraising strategy and operation while significantly increasing its philanthropic support from a portfolio of high value prospects and donors.

Priority responsibilities include

• Identifying, engaging and soliciting potential funders from a portfolio of individuals and families capable of making gifts at the six- and seven-figure level
• Matching prospect interests with current and emerging programs
• Leveraging Board and staff relationships to maximize development opportunities
• Collaborating with board and staff to devise and execute high-level solicitations
• Driving the growth and development of the prospect pool

The successful candidate will have superior interpersonal skills and will work well both independently and collaboratively. The Principal Gifts Officer will possess at least seven years of increasing fundraising accomplishments and responsibilities. He or she will have an ability to recognize opportunities and think creatively, and a talent for identifying critical, high pay-off activities and prioritizing them to attain goals. Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus.
