Friends of MarViva is a young US-based public charity that promotes the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources in the Tropical Eastern Pacific region by supporting maritime planning processes that organize human activity in the sea. Friends of MarViva aims to raise awareness and provide funding for the programs, projects, efforts and activities of charitable organizations formed to promote, sponsor and facilitate such goals.
Legal entity registered in Delaware. Office location TBD.
Position: Development Director
Reports to: Chair, Board of Directors
Location: United States (state TBD)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Development Director is responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of Friends of MarViva. This includes fundraising, researching and cultivating potential donors and partners, positioning Friends of MarViva and the causes it supports in the US, grant writing and management, networking/public relations, and the daily administration of the operation.
Specific responsibilities include:

Cultivating potential donors/partners and formalizing new co-investment alliances to support organizational goals

Researching background information on potential donors and co-investment partners (individual, corporate, private and public foundations, government and other donors or co-investment partners)

Producing donor profiles, management updates and follow up

Maintaining databases and files on foundations, donors, grant activities and contacts/correspondence with donors, cultivation reminders

Planning, coordinating and organizing meetings, conferences, donor events and fundraising trips

Creating communications content and materials
-
Managing the web page, social networks
-
Managing the reporting requirements (legal, accounting, operational, performance reports)

Coordinating reports and proposal presentations, drafting sections of proposals, and preparing tables, charts, and graphs as required by the Board or the donors

Providing project support as needed

Setting-up and daily operation of the office
Qualifications:
-
A Master’s degree in business or a related field. At least five years of experience in a related capacity.

Demonstrated ability to build high-impact partnerships and alliances
-
Fundraising experience

Proposal writing experience

Excellent written communication and interpersonal/social skills

Problem-solving skills

Attention to detail

Ability to produce reports and presentations

Ability to handle multiple assignments and work closely with project teams abroad

Ability to work under pressure

Willingness to perform wide variety of strategic as well as operational functions

MS Office, Word, Excel, Internet and basic database management skills

Possibility to work from home

Self-starter and comfortable working independently and in a start-up environment

Flexibility and positive energy

Ability to travel 8-10 times per year (approximately one week each) within the US and to Latin America

Eligibility to work in the U.S.

Familiarity with global environmental issues a plus

Fluency in Spanish a plus
